Streaks without the shame

The first version of WordySprout did what every habit app does: it told you, in red, exactly how long your streak had been before you broke it. People hated it. Not “gave feedback” hated — quietly closed the tab hated.

What we changed

The streak counter still exists, it just stops shouting. A missed day resets the sprout with a one-line note and no modal. Return rate after a missed day went from 38 % to 61 % over six weeks.

What we learned

A daily puzzle is a small pleasure. The moment it starts keeping score against you, it becomes an obligation, and obligations lose to sleep.
